David A. Marcontell, Executive Vice President and Partner, TeamSAI, Inc. presented the firm’s annual global MRO forecast on April 21, 2009 at the Aviation Week MRO Americas 2009 Conference in Dallas, Texas. The presentation, entitled “Searching for Direction in a Down Market,” explained that the market is expected to grow from $45.7B in 2009 at a slower rate than previously forecast to $68.2B in 2019. While the news of the last few months suggests doom and gloom, in the long-term TeamSAI remains confident that the market will continue to grow, though the effects of the recession will likely remove more than a year’s worth of growth from the market. As the economy climbs out of the worst recession since the 1930s, the MRO and aviation industry at large will face some real challenges. Mr. Marcontell urged attendees to take this opportunity to ensure that their businesses are implementing the right strategies for success, like committing to continuous improvements, taking advantage of information technology, preparing for environmental regulations, and looking for strategic acquisitions. Market conditions in the coming years will not be easy, but carrying out these strategies will go far to helping them weather the downturn.
